#BUCSWednesday is back, baby!

…and we are VERY excited!

It’s certainly no secret that Wednesday is our favourite day of the week – especially now the new BUCS season is here!

This week may be a quiet one on campus, with just one away BUCS fixture taking place, but we won’t despair – lots of our clubs are taking part in some friendly matches to kick off their season in style.

Here’s our pick of the games taking place both on and off campus today:

Men’s Rugby Union 1s vs University of Sheffield 1s

Looking to avenge England’s devastating tumble out of the Rugby World Cup on Saturday night, our men’s rugby union 1st team head east to face the University of Sheffield in the Northern 1A; a new league for our club, which is dominated by the likes of Leeds Beckett Carnegie and University of Liverpool.

Our team won’t be put off by that though… last year the team enjoyed an unbeaten season in the Northern 2A and we’re sure that this season will be equally as exciting.

Fixture starts: 2pm at Norton, Sheffield

Men’s Hockey 2s vs Staffordshire University 1s

This game is going to set the scene for the season to come, as this year’s BUCS Northern 2A is dominated by not one, but two MMU men’s hockey teams – with both our Cheshire and Manchester-based teams taking up residence.

It may only be a friendly match, but the Cheshire-based team will be going into this game to set a precedent for the season to come.

Fixture starts: 4:30pm at Sir Stanley Matthews Sport Centre, Stoke-on-Trent

Netball 7s vs Keele University 3s

Friendly or not, we LOVE a home game and for new students, this is your first time to experience a game on site at our Cheshire campus!

Warming up for their season, our netball 7s are looking to repeat last season’s success, which saw them promoted from the Northern 8A and be named runners up in the Northern Conference Plate after a tough game against Sheffield 4s at Durham’s Maiden Castle.

Fixture starts: 3:00pm at the Cheshire Sports Centre, Crewe

Best of luck to all of our team competing today – we’re so excited for the start of the new season!  And remember, you can follow all of the action by keeping up with us over on @MMUSport.
