Our guest writer and fellow MMU member of staff, Carmen Shallcross, is back to tell us about how she got on during her second week of the Get Into boxing course!

And if I don’t have rock hard abs by Christmas, I’ll be disappointed.
Week 2 was a completely different experience: an insane 30 minute workout had us all worn out and struggling to hold a plank after round 3. Everyone is treated equally during training, no matter shape or size. It was tough, but gave me an insight into what real training actually is and how much is expected when you want to take part in such a demanding sport. I am glad I only do it for fun! With a little encouragement and a few shouts from the coach, it was finally over and time to practise some punching.
Similarly to our first session, we paired up and practised combinations and perfecting our guard. The coaches gave us individual advice and corrected our technique, I learnt how to double my power (it’s all in the legs!) and felt more comfortable in my stance. I also learnt how wrap my hands –ah the little things!
Although the warm up was torturous, it was great to practise what we had learnt and I am definitely looking forward to picking up more technique next session.
Our Get Into boxing course is currently full but don’t worry, you can book yourself onto our the course next term! There are still spaces available for out Get Into judo for just £12!
