Our boxing apprentice and fellow staff member of MMU, Carmen Shallcross is back to tell us all about how she is progressing on our Get Into boxing course.
We had been promised some more technique in week 3 and after a short warm up, we paired up and got straight into it. We practised combinations (and are now expected to learn the different combos), which got more and more demanding as we went on… and I nearly fainted.
Well, slight exaggeration on my behalf, but it was a little embarrassing. So, if you are going to box, remember to eat and drink before!
As we are getting better at combinations, my surprise this week was the hard work that goes into padding, At first, you think that all the work goes into punching and that padding is the boring part, but it isn’t easy and it is definitely an endurance test!
I punched my modesty away and must say our main coach Kevin was impressed with my padding! When you are out of your comfort zone and so aware of the effort, improvement and strength you either lack or need, the encouragement really helps!
Bring on week 4!
