In this week’s Spotlight On… we’re getting to know our Cheshire-based men’s basketball club a little bit better!
Home to our second and fourth teams, our men’s basketball club compete in the BUCS Northern 3A and 4A respectively. They also compete in Division 1 of the Manchester Area Basketball League (MABL) on a weekly basis.
We spoke to Chair, Ashley Croft, to find out a little bit more about the club.
What’s the best part about being in your sports club?
It’s great that we get to participate in both BUCS and MABL and that we spend a lot of time getting together for regular games nights and socials during the week.
How did your club do last year on and off the pitch?
Last year was a struggle as we lost a few key players, however overall the progression of the team and the determination to succeed has helped us to build a very strong cohesion amongst the lads this year and it’s looking very promising!
What were the highs and lows from last season?
The biggest high of last season was the local derby against University of Manchester seconds, after being around 15 points down to come back and win by two points at the end. That was the best way to end a disappointing season in terms of results.
What are your hopes for 2015/16?
After the first game of the season and being 18 points down in the third quarter and to get turn it around and get ourselves the first win of the season shows the character and togetherness as a squad and club.
We need to be looking forward and can hopefully be in with a chance of winning the title. After my last three years and coming so close in two of them, I think it’s about time this team and club won a league!
What on and off the pitch activities do you have coming up for your club?
We are looking at getting friendlies with local teams throughout the season with Cheshire Hornets and Alsager Aces. We’re also looking to involve the Manchester-based club, both on and off the court, involving friendlies between the two clubs and a trip paint balling.
