We are now halfway through our Active Campus tournament week! And what an exciting couple of days it has been! Blood (definitely not), sweat (definitely) and tears (possibly) have all been shed. Let’s take a look at what has happened so far!
Our table tennis tournament kicked the week off and it proved to be very popular! With 30 people turning up to take part and claim the prizes that were up for grabs!
There was a shock early on in the tournament as our sport activator and table tennis club chairman, David Adesanya and his partner was knocked out in the group stages! This blew the competition wide open and everyone was itching to get through to the final game!
After some intense games, we had our two finalist pairs Mohit and Christine against Jack and Tahir. After a neck and neck game, the match finished with Mohit and Christine winning 4-2 in a best of seven, claiming the trophy as well as a month’s free gym membership for Sugden Sports Centre!
It was a double tournament day on Tuesday! The first tournament that took place was our squash. With a total of six well experienced squash players (including our Sports Development Assistant, Tom Jones) you could tell it was going to be a tough competition for our participants!
After some agonisingly close games, there was a clear winner! Dafydd Rees. Dafydd later told us after winning: “I’m not normally this good at squash, some of the guys here I’ve only beat once in so many games. I’m a much better rugby player!”
Our second tournament that took place on Tuesday was our dodgeball tournament. The tournament took place with six teams entering. There were some warm up drills that were coordinated by our Activators Sam and Alex to ensure all of the competitors were ready for the competition ahead. Once the drills had finished the tournament commenced.
The tournament was close with all of the competitors using the infamous five D’s of dodgeball to dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge their way around the court. After some fierce matches, the tournament finished with MMU Badminton duo Anya and Jenny taking home the trophy and Mike and Neil taking home the second place medals.
We still have spaces available for some of our our remaining tournaments!
