It’s been a great end to 2015 for our MMU Taekwondo club who, over the past two weeks, saw 21 of their students successfully past their gradings to progress onto the next belt.
For some of these students, it was their first belts, which is a brilliant achievement.
Ross Sharman, club chairman, said, “Since I began the club, we have had over 150 gradings and a 100 per cent pass rate, which is amazing and very rare – everyone is excelling and doing fantastically!”
On Saturday 12th December, the club also held their second seminar in their series. Master Malcolm Jones conducted this seminar, and 32 members attended to enjoy a fun and engaging session at Birley.
Embracing the festive period, the club have also taken part in a Christmas Shoe Box charity appeal for Wood Street Mission this month, collecting over 20 boxes of gifts!
Next term, the club are holding two more seminars. The first being led by five times World Champion, Mr Roger Lawrence.
And, perhaps most excitingly, the British University Taekwondo League (BUTL) launches next term, which will see our club compete against University clubs!
Ross added, “I’ve started BUTL as an alternative to BUCS, as we aren’t able to compete in it. I’m very confident in our competition squad, which features 27 members and, as we created the league, it would be the perfect end to be the first to win it, so fingers crossed!”
