It’s been another fantastic month for our sport scholars, Ellie Richardson, Jamie Webb, Gabriella Marshall and Catherine Pearson!
Ellie Richardson kicked off her 2016 by donning a GB skinsuit for the first time ever, competing at the Sixdays UCI event in Rotterdam, the Netherlands!
Riding with teammate Victoria Williamson, the pair clocked a time just three tenths behind the world class Dutch A team (a team tipped to represent the Netherlands in Rio!) in the Team Sprint event.
Unfortunately, before the pair could compete in their next event, Victoria was involved in a serious crash during a head to head in a match sprint. After losing consciousness, Victoria was taken straight to hospital from the track. Over the past few weeks, Victoria has been recovering wrong and we hope that she continues to do so as smoothly as possible!
Jamie Webb also enjoyed a fantastic start to 2016, after finishing first in the 800m at the BMC Indoor Grand Prix in Sheffield on Sunday 10th January.
The result also meant that Jamie was ranked number one in the UK for the first couple of weeks and earned him the opportunity to represent England at the Vienna International indoor meet on Saturday 30th January.
Saturday saw Jamie post another great result – winning the 800m B race and posting a brand new indoor PB of 1:58.2!
After an intense month of training, Gabriella Marshall took to the court on Saturday 30 January with Manchester Thunder for their opening game of the 2016 Vitality Superleague season.
Replacing teammate Laura Malcolm on court part way through the game, Gabby had a great game, delivering some well-timed intercepts, to help the team start their season with a 59 – 37 victory over Team Northumbria.
We’re also delighted to announce that applications for our 2016/17 Sport Scholarship programme are now open. You can find out more information over on our website!
