BUCSWednesday: Promotions in sight!

After a quiet month of BUCS fixtures in January, we have an action packed #BUCSWednesday this week with many teams back competing in their respective leagues.

Here’s our pick of the games taking place on Wednesday 3rd February!

MATCH OF THE DAY: Men’s Rugby League 1s vs Liverpool John Moores 1s

The Manchester Regional Stadium on the Etihad Campus will be the scene of a potential Northern 1A league victory for our men’s Rugby league 1s, the first time ever in the club’s history.

Our men’s rugby league 1s have had a perfect season so far, winning all of their eight league games in the Northern 1A. This Wednesday they take on Liverpool John Moores 1s for the 2nd time this season down at the Manchester Regional Arena.  They currently have a nine point lead over second place Sheffield 1st. A win tomorrow will see our men secure the Northern 1A with a game to spare and be a playoff match away from promotion to the Premier North. After narrowly missing out on the league title the past two years on goal difference, it will be now their time to progress and forget the disappointment of recent years. We are all looking forward to the game tomorrow, make sure you all head down to support the lads!

Men’s Table Tennis 1s vs Salford 1s

Our brand new club for 2015/16 have started their BUCS campaign well! They currently sit in 3rd position in the Northern 3A. This Wednesday they host 5th place Salford 1s down at Sugden Sports Centre. They hope to continue their great start to the season and pile pressure on the league leaders, Lancaster 2s and push for promotion.

Table Tenni

Women’s Hockey 1s vs Edge Hill 1s

Our combined Manchester and Chester hockey super club 1s have also had a perfect start to the season. They are a force to be reckoned with in the Northern 3A and closed 2015 with a completely unbeaten record. In their first match in 2016 they face Edge Hill 1s down at Timperley sports club. This is the second time they will have faced each other this season. Our women’s team will hope to repeat their fantastic victory against them back in in November and extend their lead at the top of the league.

Women's Hockey

Game starts: 3:30pm, Timperley Sports Club

Women’s Netball 1s vs Keele 1s

Women’s netball are doing brilliantly this season. They’re currently top of northern 2A and have a incredible goal difference of 232; 208 more than runners up Lancaster 1s, which is no surprise considering the quality of their team this year. In their last match, before Christmas, they beat Chester 1s 50-25 setting them up nicely for 2016. This Wednesday they face bottom of the table Keele 1s for the 2nd time this season. Back in October, they comfortably beat them 90-26 in a game full of goals! They will hope for a repeat of this tomorrow and in doing so all but secure the Northern 2A!

Men’s Badminton 1s vs Edge Hill 1s

It’s a first v second clash in Northern 3A this week and it’s a must win for Edge Hill 1s if they want to keep up the pressure on our men’s team, who are 3 points ahead of them.  It will be the second time the two teams will meet this season. Edge Hill 1s have only recorded one loss this year and this was against our men’s team. In their last league match they closed 2015 with a convincing 6-2 win against UCLAN 2s. They will hope to repeat and continue their 100% record tomorrow, good luck lads!
