In yesterday’s Match of the Day, our Rugby League 1st team were able to storm their way to league victory, with a 42-10 win over Liverpool John Moores.

The team went into the game knowing that the league title was in touching distance. They have worked hard to get to this point for several years and were determined to better last season’s result, where they finished runners up in Northern 1A.

Our team could not have wished for a better start to the game, scoring two tries within the first five minutes to gain a 10-0 lead. On a clear day at the Manchester Regional Arena, there was some strong support for the MMU team, creating a great atmosphere. The supporters were delighted to witness another two very quick tries for the home side just before half time, leaving the score 22-0 going into the break.

Once the teams returned to the field, Liverpool John Moores, feeling determined to make things difficult for the home side, were able to score an early try, sending the message that the game was not over yet! Their joy was short lived however, as the home side responded straight away with another two tries to extend their lead.

Towards the end of the game, it was all about MMU, as they dominated with some great play. Looking very strong and playing exceptionally well as a team, our team were able to secure a well-deserved 42-10 victory, along with the long awaited league title.

Following this match, the team will begin their cup campaign in two weeks’ time, and will face either Loughborough 2nd team or today’s opponents, Liverpool John Moores. The team will also have to wait to try to seal promotion to the Northern Premier league, as they will have to compete in a promotion play off against a team from the Midlands, before the end of the season. We will be following their progress closely, and hoping further success is on the way!

Our Netball 1st team continued their push for promotion with a victory over Keele with a spectacular 113-11 score line. Our team started with great intensity in a bid to gain an early lead, which their achieved in style, scoring five goals within the first 60 seconds of the match.

The home team gained in strength throughout the game, and by half time, the score was 63-5. There was no way back for Keele, as the home side showed just how much potential they have, and why they deserve to again promotion, securing 113 goals, to Keel’s 11 by the end of the game.

The result means that our team are now within touching distance of promotion, but with three league games left, they will look to continue their unbeaten run and will also be looking forward to their cup quarter final match in two weeks’ time.
