#BUCSWednesday: It has been a great week for our #TiedTogether teams!

This week, our teams have been taking part in the #TiedTogether campaign, which seeks to tackle homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in sport.

Yesterday, many of our teams signed the Charter for Action in The Union and took to the pitch, court and field sporting rainbow laces to their matches.

It was also another successful week in competition for our teams, with more of our teams securing their league titles!

Here’s our highlights from yesterday’s fantastic #BUCSWednesday!

MOTD: Men’s Basketball 2nd v University of Manchester 2nd

bball2

In our Match of the Day, our men’s basketball 2nd team faced the University of Manchester 2nd team. When these teams faced each other earlier in the season it was a close battle, but our team were victorious, winning by six points.

Our team knew this game was going to be a tough contest, and that both teams would be feeling under pressure as the end of the season approaches. Unfortunately, the University of Manchester were able to come out on top this time around, beating our 2nd team 59-82.

Our team will look to win their final two remaining games to fight to stay in the division next season.

Women’s Hockey 1st v University of Manchester 2nd

hockey1

It was another fantastic week for our women’s hockey super team, who enjoyed an 8-0 victory over University of Manchester 2nd team. This result means that our team have been crowned league champions with two games to spare!

However, having only conceded three goals in the league this season, and scoring and impressive 76, the team will be looking to finish the season unbeaten and will start to prepare for next season, where they will compete in Northern 2A.

Men’s Badminton 3rd v Edge Hill 3rd

It was the perfect end to the season for our men’s badminton 3rd team, as have joined our list of league winners, following a 6-2 victory over Edge Hill yesterday. This result means our team have finished the league season unbeaten and will be looking forward to competing in Northern 4A next season.

The team will also be hoping for further success within the club, as the men’s 1st team have edged closer to league victory, following a 7-1 victory over the University of Manchester yesterday.

Men’s Tennis v Edge Hill 1st

Our men’s tennis team were able to strengthen their bid for promotion yesterday, with an impressive 10-2 victory over Edge Hill.

This result leaves our team six points clear at the top of the table, with two games left to play. They could seal promotion if they win their next game against UCLAN in a few weeks.

Women’s Tennis v University of Manchester 2nd

It was also a successful day for our women’s tennis team, who beat University of Manchester 2nd team 10-2. It has been an impressive season for our women’s team, who are only competing in Northern 2A for the first time this season. They could still enjoy successive promotions, but will need to win their two remaining games. Their focus next week will turn to their conference cup quarter final, where they will face Leeds Beckett.

Men’s Water Polo 1st v University of Sheffield 1st

It was another brilliant week for our men’s water polo team, who beat Sheffield 16-10. After a tough season last year and narrowly avoiding relegation, our team have bounced back in great style and now find themselves at the other end of the table, with the league title and a place in the promotion play-off race within touching distance. The team will now be following results elsewhere in the league before their final game on Wednesday 9th March. The team also start their cup campaign next week, where they will play Edinburgh.

Congratulations to all of our teams who took part in fixtures yesterday! We have a busy fixture week next week, so make sure you download the fixtures for Manchester and Cheshire:
