Match report: another week, another victory for our netball team!

After last week’s extraordinary victory over Keele, our netball 1s took to the court against Edge Hill again to continue their domination of the BUCS Northern 2A, as they edge ever-closer to being named league champions and earning promotion.

Sport scholar and player of the match (as decided by Edge Hill), Rachel Towell, brings us the match report!

“Wednesday saw the first team travel to Edge Hill to continue their unbeaten run. After struggling to find a parking space and the sports hall the girls eventually got on court with the starting seven of Chloe Shepherd (GS), Fran Duffy (GA), Rachel Towell (WA), Eliza Morgan (C), Ruth Anderson (WD), Rebekah Airey (GD) and Nancy Thompson (GK).

“Both teams got off to a strong start but with numerous turnovers in defence and attack and some great shooting from Chloe and Fran, MMU took the lead at the end of the first quarter, 15-10.

“Charlotte Halliwell came on replacing Nancy and joining Rebekah in the circle. The second quarter saw MMU extend their lead with great passages of play especially transitions from defence to attack. The end of the second quarter finished 32-15, pumped to increase the lead further.

“Changes in the third quarter saw Charlotte move to WA, Rachel to C and Nancy come back on in defence. Edge Hill played some great netball forcing MMU to keep fighting in order to push their lead on further, finishing the third quarter 44-23.

“The final quarter saw Rachel move back to WA, Eliza back on at C and Charlotte replacing Ruth at WD.  MMU finished as they started with some great turnovers, passages of play and shooting accuracy.  MMU played strong till the very end and the final score was 61-38.

“Edge Hill fought right to the end and gave a good battle providing great practice and preparation for the cup quarter final against Chester next Wednesday.  With every player contributing it was another great win for MMU firsts!”
