In this week’s Spotlight On…we’re getting to know our Rounders club a little bit better!
We spoke to club chairperson Nicole Sweeney to find out a little bit more about our club.
What’s the best part about being in your sports club?
“Seeing member’s confidence develop not only with the sport but also with themselves, the support you get from each other is great. I feel that the friendships you make in sport really makes your university experience and you get to stay fit whilst being in the club.”
How did your club do last year on and off the pitch?
“We have had two friendly matches against Chester and we came very close to winning.”
What were the highs and lows from last season?
“The highs were having a lot of members show enthusiasm for our club. Seeing our members become more comfortable with the sport and team members and the dedication to training and socials has continued to be good since last season. Overall, last season we ended on a high, having lots of people attend all events including games, training and tour.“
What are your hopes for 2015/16?
“Our hopes for 2015/16 are for the club to play a few more universities in friendly tournaments. We’re also after some of our members to become part of our committee as four of the current committee are in our final year. We want attendance at training and Wednesday socials to continue at the high level it’s currently at. Overall, we want our members to gain the best university they can experience by being part of the club!”
What on and off the pitch activities do you have coming up for your club?
“On the pitch, we attend training every week and are in the process of organising more games. Off the pitch, we have done things such as have a Christmas rounders meal for all members, we also entered three teams into the Disco Dodgeball tournament that took place in the Union. We also plan socials every week for all of our members, we are going on the SportsVest tour, attending the sports ball and having a weekly meeting with the committee to organise more on and off pitch ideas for members.”
