Last weekend, our Manchester and Cheshire Cheerleading club made their way to Birmingham’s Genting Arena for the 2016 Future Cheer UK University Cheerleading National Championships!
We had three squads take part in what was an exciting weekend of competitions, with our Manchester-based blue squad competing in the Small University All Girl Level 2 competition, the orange squad competing in the Large University All Girl Level 1 competition and our Cheshire-based co-ed squad taking part in the University Coed Level 1 competition!
Up first on Sunday 21st February, our co-ed squad gave a fantastic performance to finish fourth – their best ever result at the competition!
Eve Rothwell said, “We turned up to the event not expecting to place anywhere due to our previous track record. Our aim was to have fun and to show off what we had been working on.
“For a lot of teams to come fourth would be a let-down, but for our squad we were all over the moon and so proud of ourselves that our hard work had paid off.
“Bring on our next competition at Loughborough University!”
Taking to the floor straight after our co-ed team were our blue squad, competing in the Level 2 competition.
Lizzie Fletcher-Byers said, “We had a nervous couple of hours after we arrived and a last minute accident on the warm up mat almost lead to our blue team being pulled from the competition. However, they fought on and ended up placing fourth!”
After showing some incredible sportsmanship, cheering on the other teams, later that morning, the orange squad took to the floor in the Level 1 competition, placing sixth!
Lizzie added, “We were extremely happy with the fact we only had one deduction for the whole routine, although our category was so strong this year. Where we placed was bit disappointing for the team, although instead of getting frustrated, it has given them more determination to go out and smash Dream Xtreme on the 19th March.”
Congratulations to all three teams on a fantastic event!
