#BUCSWednesday: Finals within touching distance!

Last #BUCSWednesday was a fantastic day for our teams, which saw two league titles claimed and some emphatic Cup matches won. This week we have a quieter #BUCSWednesday, but there are some very important semi-final matches to be played for!

Here’s our pick of our Cup games to look out for on Wednesday 2nd March!

MATCH OF THE DAY: Netball 1s vs Leeds Beckett 2s

After an empathic win against Lancaster 1s last week to secure the BUCS Northern 2A league title, our netball 1s continue their cup campaign tomorrow where they host Leeds Beckett 1s in the semi final.

In the quarter-finals, they comfortably beat Chester 1s 62-37 away from home. Tomorrow, in a late #MOTD, they face a Leeds Beckett side who are currently 3rd in Northern 2B. A win tomorrow will secure their spot in the Northern Conference Cup final like they did back in 2013. Good luck ladies!

Game starts: 6:00pm, Sugden Sports Centre.

Men’s Hockey 1s vs Northumbria 1s

Another team who are having a brilliant cup campaign this year are our Manchester-based men’s hockey 1s. Our #MOTD two weeks ago did not disappoint: in a thrilling high pressure game, our men’s 1s saw off Leeds 1s 3-2 down at Timperley to book their place in the semis.

They will hope to put last week’s disappointment of losing out on the league title behind them with a win tomorrow that will book their place in the Northern Conference Cup final on the 9th March. We’ll be rooting for them!

Game starts: 2:30pm, Timperley Sports Club.

Men’s Basketball 1s vs Bradford 1s

With the Northern 2A league title within touching distance and promotion in sight, our men’s basketball 1s are hoping to go for the double for the first time in their club’s history.

Tomorrow#, they head to West Yorkshire to take on Bradford 1s in the semi final of the cup. Bradford will no doubt be a tough team to beat; they are currently close to winning their respective league themselves. In the quarter-final two weeks ago, they traveled to South Yorkshire and came home with a well-earned 70-59 win over Sheffield 1s to book their place in the semis. Let’s hope our lads can bring home the win and see them play in the cup final day next week!

Tip off: 4:00pm, Bradford College Sports Centre.

Men’s Football 1s vs Nottingham Trent 1s

Our Cheshire-based men’s football 1s have had a steady season so far in the Northern 1A, sitting in 4th place. However, their BUCS trophy campaign is going very well!

Last week, in the quarter-finals, they beat Newcastle 1s in a trilling 3-2 win down at Sandbach United. Tomorrow, they head to Nottingham Trent to continue their cup campaign in the semis. Their opponents are currently second to bottom in the Midlands 1A. This will still be an extremely tough match however, they will hope for a repeat of last year’s successful cup campaign which saw them lift the Conference Cup in a 2-1 win against Manchester 2s. Good luck lads!

Kick off: 1:00pm, Clifton Campus 3G, Nottingham.

Men’s Rugby Union 2s vs Cumbria 2s

Another Cheshire-based team are having a storming year are our men’s rugby union 2s. Having won all six of their league matches so far in the Northern 4A, they are also within touching distance of winning the title. T

wo weeks ago they beat Sheffield 3s to book their place in the Northern Conference Plate semi final, with a 17-10 victory away from home. Tomorrow, they travel up north to Aspatria RUFC to face Cumbria 2s who are two leagues below them in Northern 6A. Good luck and bring home the victory boys!

Game starts: 5:00pm, Aspatria RUFC, Wigton.

We’ll be keeping you updated with all of the action on @MMUSport.  Best of luck to all of our teams competing tomorrow!
