The MMU Sport workplace games are a free to enter staff recreational tournament, which allows you to compete alongside colleagues against other departments in the university. They are one off tournaments, which hope to bring staff from all over the university to play some semi-competitive team sports. Over the year we have held numerous games including a mixed doubles badminton and mixed netball tournament, and had over 80 members of staff involved.
On Friday 8th April, MMU Sport hosted the third staff workplace 5-a-side tournament down at Trinity high school, on the outside 3G pitches. There was a positive turnout of 36 members of staff with six teams overall competing. The games were full of good competitive fun, with only a couple of minor injuries. We had teams from a variety of departments including staff from students hubs, business support, Criminology and Languages and our reigning champions LRT United from Learning, Resources and Technology. There were two teams in contention for the title, Student Union 1s and LRT United had won all of their games comfortably up until they met eachother in their 4th fixture. LRT United in their recognised range kit were beaten 2-1 for the first time in their Workplace games history.
With LRT United comfortably winning their last match 5-0 against SU 2s. Therefore it meant that SU 1 had to at least draw to claim the tournament trophy. They finished the tournament in style with a fantastic 5-0 victory over Athletico Pathetico and maintained their 100% record.
Many thanks to everyone who took part and made the event a success! We are already planning our next workplace games tournament for August so keep an eye out for that! Why not get a team together from your office/department and sign up for our next workplace games! Don’t have a team? We can help find you one and make sure you get involved by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
