19 promotions, 3 cup wins and history made.

With 19 promotions, three cup wins and history being made, its safe to say we had a year to remember!

We’ll now look back on the main achievements for the 15/16 BUCS season!

This year, two of our men’s teams enjoyed promotions. Our men’s 1s gained promotion into Northern 2A with their unbeaten record in Northern 3A. The men’s 3s made Northern 5A look easy, winning all seven of their league games. Fantastic season guys!

Our men’s basketball 1s, have also had a brilliant season. Winning nine out of ten of their league games, they earned their spot in the Northern 1A league, seeing off fierce opposition like Manchester and Liverpool. They also nearly completed the perfect season finishing runners up in the Conference Cup to a strong Huddersfield side. We’ll be looking forward to seeing them play in their new home, Belle Vue, next year as they continue their campaign to get to the BUCS premier north!

This week, our men’s cricket 1s won the Northern 3A with victory
over Manchester 3s down at Ashton-upon-Mersey CC. They knew going into the match that a win would guarantee them first place and the promotion into Northern 2A. They batted Manchester out the field and maintained their 100% record in the league. Great stuff lads, well done!

Our Cheshire based men’s football 1s, had a successful cup campaign this year winning the BUCS Trophy back in March against Essex. TheyCdr9M5PWIAAXIfF made it tough for themselves however, after going one nil up after 10 mins, Essex looked strong and got a goal back to head into extra time. They then went on to score another in the first half of extra time to make it 2-1. However, after a strong team performance from our men’s football 1s in the second half, they were rewarded with 2 goals to make it 3-2! Fantastic team performance all around. Champions!

Our men’s futsal are a brand new club, formed from a group of lads from our Active Campus sessions. This year, they went on to win the Northern 2A (losing only one game) and also won the Conference Cup, beating Chester 7-2 in the final at Lancaster University. We will hope for more of the same next year when they compete in Northern 1A.

Well done lads!

Another brand new club in their debut season, men’s golf 1s,  won the Northern 3A league title earning their promotion into 2A. Moving into their new home at Northendon next year, the club will hope to grow and challenge for the league title again!

We had 2 promotions for our hockey clubs this year. Our Manchester and Cheshire women’s super team won all 10 of their league matches this year racking up an impressive goal difference of +81, securing their place into Northern 2A next year. Our men’s 2s, overcame our men’s 1s to win the Northern 2A for the first time in their clubs history! Next year, like the women’s team, our men’s will become a Manchester and Cheshire performance team, we’re hoping for even bigger and better things next year for our great hockey club!

Our netball 1s, have had a season to remember this year. After finishing runners up in the 14/15 season, this year was their turn to shine, and they didn’t disapoint. With a team packed full of scholars, our netball 1s were a force to be wreckoned CdH5-neW0AArQAuwith. They went unbeaten in the Northern 2a collating a huge goal difference of +427! As if the league wasnt enough, they went onto win the BUCS Conference Cup in style over Northumbria 2s. A truly great season, we hope next season is just as good!

Rugby League

After narrowly missing out on promotion to the BUCS premier last year, our men’s rugby league 1s redeemed themselves this year by winning the Northern 1A for the first time in the club’s history. They then went on to win their playoff match against Nottingham with ease lFullSizeRenderast month, securing their place in the BUCS Premier North. A season of hard work has paid off and we can’t wait to see our lads play again next year!

Rugby Union

We had three promotions for our rugby union teams this year. Our men’s 2s won the Northern 4A, our 3s won 5A and our women’s won Northern 3A in style winning all of their matches! What a year for our rugby union sides!

There was a double promotion for both of our Tennis teams this year. With the men’s winning Northern 4A unbeaten and the women’s claiming the Northern 2A in great fashion. We look forward to watching them next season in their new leagues!

Our men’s volleyball 2s who played the majority of their matches on the weekend enjoyed league victory in Northern 3A. Their 2-0 win against Chester on the last day of the season was enough to earn promotion into  Northern 2A. Superb effort!

Our men’s waterpolo 1s, like rugby league have a had brilliant season! After
winning the Northern 1A for the first time in the clubs history, they were thrown into a three way Premier North playoff with Nottingham IMG_2024and Leeds. They only went and beat both teams to book their spot in the Premier north! Bring on the big teams next year!
