I’m Gabby Marshall – MMU Sport scholar, Manchester Met physio student and netballer for MMU, Manchester Thunder and England.
This week I am currently on a tour of the country with England under 21s playing several warm up games prior to the Seniors playing their test series vs Jamaica.
We played a behind closed doors friendly against Jamaica seniors on Sunday which was a great experience for the team, both heading into our upcoming series of games but also in preparation for the World Youth Cup in July.
With sold out games in London, Manchester and Coventry against national and international opposition, this series is going to provide lots of opportunities for us to test out combinations.
As always I’m aiming to put in good performances if given the opportunity to take to the court; selection for the World Youth Cup is nearing and each performance matters.
I’m also looking forward to catching up with my team mates in our free time – I am going to make it my mission to show off all that Manchester has to offer whilst we’re there.
Several southerners in the squad try to claim their region is better than mine… they are definitely wrong!
On a serious note, I can’t write this blog without highlighting how grateful I am to MMU for allowing me the chance to compete in this series.
I am currently on one of my final placements as a physiotherapy student and therefore have had to take a week off from working in the hospital.
As always, the physiotherapy lecturers and MMU Sport staff have been outstanding in providing me with the support needed to be able to combine my studies with my netball, helping me to be successful in both areas.
With some of the pressure eased academically whilst I’m away on tour, I’m excited to play some netball & to get the opportunity to represent my country in my home city. Bring on the series!
